Covers accommodation blocks for out-of-town guests, and sometimes the couple's own wedding-night stay.

Why it matters

Not directly the couple's cost in most cases, but poor planning here creates real stress for guests — and a wedding-night stay booked too late can mean settling for something far from the venue.

When it should happen

4–6 months out — block-book a room allocation at a nearby hotel/guesthouse before individual guests start booking on their own at higher rates.

Questions to ask

• Can the venue offer a group rate or room block for guests?
• What's the cancellation policy for a room block if fewer guests book than expected?
• Is the couple's own wedding-night room included in any venue package?
• Is transport arranged between the accommodation and the venue if they're not co-located?

Mistakes to avoid

• Not arranging a room block early, leaving guests to find (and pay more for) their own last-minute options.
• Forgetting to book the couple's own wedding-night room until very late.
• Assuming guests know how to get from accommodation to the venue without providing transport details.

Worth knowing

Ask about the room block's cancellation/release date — most hotels release unbooked rooms back to the public a set number of weeks out, so guests need a clear deadline to book within the group rate.
